BTL-LP Longprobe

The BTL-LP Longprobe, otherwise known simply as the Y-Wing Longprobe, is a variant of the standard BTL Y-Wing Starfighter used as a reconnaissance and scouting fighter by the Rebel Alliance. The turret, warhead launcher systems, and armor have been removed to make room for a powerful suite of additional sensors and electronic warfare equipment. The gunner position is replaced by a combat systems officer to operate those systems. Leftover reactor power has been rerouted to uprated engines, resulting in a lighter craft that is both faster and more maneuverable than the standard A4 model currently in service in the rebellion. While it retains its primary weaponry and is moderately able to defend itself, Longprobe crews commonly operate alone and are instructed to avoid dogfighting wherever possible.

Longprobe mission profiles include both deep space reconnaissance as well as combined fleet operations, where it is able to overcome enemy jamming and provide extra resolution in triangulating targets during battle. The Alliance maintains both a dedicated recon squadron as well as attaching individual ships to larger capital ships, ensuring they can stay one step away from Imperial detection, timely locate targets for hit-and-tun strikes, and maintain equal footing in battle.
