The Twin Ion Engine Starfighter revolutionized fighter design and fundamentally reshaped Imperial military doctrine. Based around Raith Sienar's radical Clone Wars-era SIE-TIE twin ion engine concept, these ships were faster and more maneuverable than anything seen before, and the Empire eagerly began planning to have them replace their aging starfighter force. Though small and cheap, the first full production models lacked the power required to provide adequate shielding, hyperdrive, and life support systems.
An inconspicuous but vital component of the standard Imperial fighter wing, the TIE/rc variant is the most prominent sublight reconnaissance craft of the Galactic Civil War. Though the Empire makes extensive use of dedicated scout ships, those craft are built for maximum speed in hyperspace and tend to carry massive and expensive sensor equipment. Consequently, they are not suitable for deployment in or near a combat zone as they would be easy pickings for even the most humble snubfighter.
Sienar Fleet Systems' Lambda Shuttle is the Empire's workhorse light utility transport. Well armed, armored, and shielded, this vessel is capable of carrying its crew of six officers plus eighty tons of cargo or over twenty battle-ready troops through a combat zone with minimal or no escort. Another advantage possessed by this shuttle is a high end hyperdrive, making it faster than even some of the Empire's older capital ships.
